Rep. Dr. Jasmine Clark, Candidate for Georgia's 13th Congressional District, Releases Statement on the Shooting at Emory Point

“Today, I received a text message from my job about an active shooter situation on campus that told me to “Run. Hide. Fight.” As a professor at Emory University, and a parent , I am horrified that this took place in a place where I recently stood with CDC protesters, next to a daycare center full of small children, and just weeks before thousands of students are set to return for the first day of classes. While I was not on campus at the time of this incident , I was on campus earlier this morning.

I am saddened to hear reports that a DeKalb County l aw enforcement officer responding to the scene has senselessly lost their life in this incident and I am praying for their family and the entire law enforcement community.

These heinous acts cannot be normalized. I will never pretend like this is normal or like we are powerless to stop it. This is the second active shooter incident in Georgia just this week. Everyone deserves to be able to go to work and school without fear of being shot. Parents deserve to be able to send their toddler to daycare without getting an emergency text that shots have been fired right next door. I refuse to accept this as our reality.
