Rep. Dr. Jasmine Clark, Candidate for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District, calls on Rep. David Scott to co-sponsor Articles of Impeachment against Kristi Noem
Rep. Scott has failed to sign on to Rep. Robin Kelly’s measure, supported by over 50 of his Democratic colleagues, despite massive in-district protests against ICE
LILBURN, GA– Today, Rep. Dr. Jasmine Clark (D-Lilburn), a microbiologist, Emory University biology professor, and candidate for Congress, calls on Rep. David Scott to co-sponsor Rep. Robin Kelly’s articles of impeachment against DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.
“Under Kristi Noem’s watch, ICE has turned into a lawless organization where masked individuals are killing unarmed mothers like Renee Good in the streets and innocent Black men like Keith Porter Jr. in their apartment complexes,” said Rep. Dr. Clark. “Calls for her impeachment are more than justified as Congress should fulfill their Constitutional duty to be a check on the Executive branch. Rep. David Scott has a chance to stand with his constituents and over 50 of his colleagues, including several members of the Congressional Black Caucus, by signing onto these articles of impeachment. , ”
“Over the last year, ICE’s destruction has impacted several parts of the 13th Congressional district, including my home community in Gwinnett County. Community members like Rodney Taylor, a disabled barber from Loganville, have been locked up in horrific conditions, with medical needs unmet, hours away from their homes, awaiting trials that never seem to come soon enough. Protesters in our district are speaking out against Kristi Noem and ICE and asking members of Congress, like Rep David Scott, to take action.”
“Many in the community are already upset that last September Rep. Scott voted to express gratitude for ICE. Signing on to these articles of impeachment is a chance for him to finally listen to the voice of the people in the district and take real action against Noem’s recklessness.”
